Dental Initiative

No slowing Mama Arlene down. When there is a need she finds a way to work with those in our community to provide essential services. That's how Dr. Eulade became connected to Urukundo. He treated our children's dental needs and now wants to give back to the community. What a wonderful young man he is and an example of a Rwandan being empowered to pay it forward.

Today I met Dr. Elade as he came to visit all our classrooms to teach the children about dental hygiene. I'll share that story soon.

Elade, his first name, had parents that instilled the importance of education. His father had been a nurse and his mother is a teacher in a primary school. He has two brothers and 3 foster sisters. His sisters were girls from the community his mother took in after the genocide. They had little but shared what they had.

He attended Catholic high school with a concentration in Latin and sciences. A full scholarship provided the opportunity for him to receive his degree from the University of Rwanda, the Department of Medicine and Health Science.

Eulade is 30 years old and has practiced dentistry for 8 years at Kabgayi Hospital nearby. He works 4 1/2 days and uses his other half day and Saturday treating children in our community at Urukundo, where I stay. Exciting news is his impending marriage. But that means 3 ceremonies, civil, dowry, and religious, that he has to pay for.

He has refused payment for his services but we hope that we can help him in the future.

Our dental initiative happens here!
