Grace Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten in State College holds an international week each February. Well this year I was thrilled to connect with them and have Rwanda be selected. Little did I know how authentic they try to make it. The kids each make their own passports and bring them to check in where they are stamped before they go through security.
Children are seated in rows on the floor as the pilots enter to begin their long journey. The pilots this year were called Bob and Dud and what a routine they put on. From reading maps upside-down to simulating takeoff and turbulence. What a fun time the kids had. I was the in-flight entertainment showing pictures of what they would see in Rwanda. Upon landing my friend Judith from Rwanda greeted the children and spoke in Kinyarwanda. As they filed off she actually danced for them.
To make International Week even more eventful they were collecting Dimes For Desks to help purchase new desks for the school in Rwanda. It's wonderful to see children, their families and teachers working together like this. And they raised $105. Enough to purchase 3 sets of desks and chairs!
