Reading Competition

Last Friday the Urukundo School had a reading competition. The top 2 readers from Grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 competed by reading a book they had practiced. I was actually asked to be one of the three judges and wow the competition was stiff. The kids at the school are very dedicated, hard working kids.

Many of the competitors and winners were from the Urukundo Children's Home. The winners from the home were Grade 1 Claudine, Grade 2 Johnny, and Grade 4 Claude. It was impressive. The winners received small backpacks with school supplies.

Even the rain didn't dampen the event that started with dancing, vocabulary and spelling competitions then the reading. Shoes are always left outside so teachers were busy protecting them from the rain. I always wonder how they find their pair of shoes in a big pile like that. But they do!!!

  1. Hi Carol, The book reading sounds like a fun event. I bet it was difficult to be a judge and choose a winner. What book and story won? Did you give out prizes?
