Teachers

There are now 25 on staff and 456 students at the Urukundo school.

Preschool and Kindergarten has 3 main teachers each with an assistant. Jeanne a preschool teacher from PA arrived here Jan1 and leaves the end of April. Three morning classes with 3-4 year olds focus on teaching through play and creativity. The 3 afternoon classes are for 4-5 year olds.

Primary 1-4 has two classes for each grade level. The classes are English, Kinyarwanda (traditional language), French, Math, Science, Social Studies, Music/Art and Religion. They also have time to visit the library and play sports.

Last year Irene became headmaster. This year Vieteur was named head teacher for primary and Theogene head teacher for preschool/kindergarten. A librarian, religious studies, upper level science and sports teacher were added. What a great team they are.

Today Kimber and I met with them to discuss the water-themed school to school partnership projects and science projects we will be working on with them. They are so receptive and thrilled that Kimber, a teacher with 30years of experience teaching Elem school and at Penn State University, will be working closely with them. What a great opportunity to share their expertise and love for teaching.

When I took the photo of the primary 1-4 staff I said they looked like doctors with the school coats. Irene laughed and said they were doctors, "healing ignorance."
